We entrust the president to make the right decisions and to do what is best for us. This is why we vote for who we think is the better president and hope he will serve us when we need him. After the recent attacks on September 11, 2001, a lot of stress has been put on the president because our nation is keeping a close watch on his actions. At times of war, he is our backbone and the support we need. Congress has been putting the president on the spot about spending money for drop-in supplies to Afghanistan, which will affect the entire United States by causing us to spend more money and at the same time, hurting our economy.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Recently, President Bush has been working since September 11 to find a solution to cut the spending of Congress, but at the same time, provide military assistance to Afghanistan. Bush believes that he may have opened up doors to profligate government spending and thinks he is too late to close them. On Wednesday morning, several presidential advisers met and decided that it was necessary to pursue and improve the stimulus package, the supplies being parachuted for the citizens of Afghanistan. Bush was against this idea and publicly asked for support from congressional leaders to limit the spending of the package. He was asked if he would veto the excessive spending, but Bush would not say. His credibility is on the line and the public will be watching him to see if he will stand by his words. While Bush has been gaining support from the people of America, Congress has been spending more money. Funds from the Social Security surplus have even been used for the war. Tax cuts to redistribute incomes have been added to the $40 billion already spent. Some people though, believe that the stimulus package should be scrapped. Lawrence Lindsey comments, â€Å"To kill them now, threatened a stock market collapse and a deeper recession.† All these events have been directed toward us because our nation will soon be in debt and we will have to cut down on spending to keep our economy up.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Congress has been testing the president’s limits on how much he plans to spend for the packages being dropped in Afghanistan.

The Introduction part of the book Born for Liberty by Sara M. Evans is the written path of being informed of the History of Women in America. As it is mentioned in the first few pages of this book, there is a lack of information that we need to fill in ourselves. We have all heard from many historians specially, that our World cannot take the right direction if it finds its past obscured and hard to be seen! I believe a lot of things are connected to each other, and history is one of the most relevant part of our globe and the reason being is because we depend on what our ancestors had been through! The fact that I am using the word depend might confuse you by giving you the wrong idea! In the past, there have been a lot of wonderful, but without forgetting to mention the â€Å"not so pretty† moments that people have lived years ago! Historians are the ones who are willing to examine and study the roots of out life in order to offer us the opportunity to improve our chances of the event that might happen again as it usually does when there are pieces of the puzzle missing! We learn from what had happened to our ancestors, and this way we figure out something else that should improve our life, and diminishing the chances of something ugly to happen again! I guess, all of us know that there has been an abundance of distinct wars in many different countries, and as the years are going by we are reducing the numbers of wars around the world and that is because we learned from the other’s mistakes! Now going back to the main topic, the history of Women in America, there is a great deal to talk about! Everybody, even my little sister can notice that women are kind of excluded from our History and it has always been that way till’ now! There was always this vision we had in our minds, that there was always a HE rather than a SHE! We always viewed women as weak creatures designed only for housework, and offering pleasure to the man she stands by! If you have noticed, the fairy tails and the other old stories we have heard during the years we grew, there was always the prince, the hero, the superman, etc! Well, I think it is time for us to have a look at the female part of the world and try to accept their accomplishments during the years that have passed! Women were always excluded from most formal public roles, and as the years passed they learned how to be heard and Sara M. Evans  supports really well this idea by giving a good example of this that is mentioned in the introduction part of the book when it says: † The most extreme example is the women of Salem, Massachusetts; as accused witches, accusers, and witnesses, these women held an entire colony in thrall for months† (Evans 4). There have also been feminist historians who have dedicated their lives primarily to clear the bad opinion people saved relating to women. Now it is more than obvious and lucid that women have really shaped the broader history and they have given it the flavor it lacked back then! They were the ones who helped to solve the uncountable problems the government had with the immigrants, the ethnic problems and the other ones that would still be present if it wasn’t for the intellectual women who set goals to themselves! This is what Sara M. Evans is trying to explain in her book Born For Liberty!

In â€Å"Everything Bad Is Good For You,† Steven Johnson discusses why and how he believes today’s popular culture is actually making us smarter, rather than dumbing us down. Johnson has his book split into two different parts, focusing mainly on the first part of his book, he talks about the ways people consume media and how it has become more complex and challenging over the years. The title headings for each sub-chapters are - Video Games, Television, Internet, and Movies. Within each subchapter he uses a vast number of examples from each section to support his argument. The biggest part the first chapter is dedicated to video games. Johnston suggests that when video games were first released that people thought they made us dumber and wasted our mind’s skills. He uses the example about how if video games had arrived before books, we would be more hesitant towards books. We would be looking at the negative aspects of book reading and how they are isolating, under-stimulating and do not engage enough. Stating that we use books to test cognitive benefits – attention, memory, focus and following threads, Johnston goes into a detail about how video games uses all these skills and more. He uses examples from Tetris, Pac-Man, SimCity200 and even The Legend of Zelda.
